Gumbaz

Gumbaz at Srirangapatana is close to the Sangam and it is here that Hyder Ali, his wife and son Tipu Sultan have been buried. The tombs of other members of the family are also found here. An impressive square structure, the massive dome is supported by a corridor with pillars of black hornblende and the carved stone windows and doors with ivory inlay works are the redeeming features of this monument. The lower half of the structure is embellished by liberal use of granite of grey and black marble combination while the dome is of brick and mortar with multiple moulded cusps
